JUNIOR PLAYER REGISTRATIONS
St Pats has three levels of baseball which are supported within the club, Tee-Ball, Zooka and Junior Baseball. St Pats Baseball Club focus on 3 things:
Fun: Junior sports should be, above all else, fun. St Pats strive to make the environment as inclusive and supportive as possible to engage kids in sport and provide a space for them to learn and grow.
Learning: St Pats Juniors introduces young children to the basics of baseball, such as hitting, running, fielding, and teamwork. It is a low-pressure and fun environment where children can build confidence and develop a love for the sport.
Sportsmanship: Another essential aspect of St Pats Baseball Club is teaching good sportsmanship. Coaches and parents emphasise fair play, encouraging and supporting all players, regardless of their skill level.
Tee-ball, often spelled as "T-ball," is a simplified and introductory version of baseball designed for young children, typically between the ages of 4 to 7 years old. The sport aims to teach the fundamentals of baseball in a fun and non-competitive environment, allowing children to develop their physical coordination, social skills, and interest in the sport.
Here's a breakdown of how Tee-ball is played:
Setup: Tee-ball is usually played on a smaller field compared to regular baseball. The bases are closer together, and the pitcher's mound is absent. There is also a designated area near home plate where a batting tee is placed.
Tee-ball games are usually kept short and fast-paced. The focus is on keeping the game moving and giving every child plenty of opportunities to participate. Games are played for approximately 1 hr and are played in the mornings.
As children become more comfortable with the game and its rules, they can transition to more advanced levels of baseball, where the complexity of the game increases. However, Tee-ball serves as an excellent starting point, laying the foundation for a child's journey into the world of sports.
Zooka is again another modified version of the game of baseball. The ball is placed into a Zooka Pitching Machine, which has been developed to project the ball towards the strike zone in a consistent and safe format. This game is closer to the game of baseball and is for kids aged 8-11. The game has more structure than T-Ball and there is the introduction of a catcher, who’s role is to catch the pitched ball.
This game has been around for some years now and has developed many good baseballers across it’s time. It is a great way to develop into the game and learn how to hit a moving ball. The ball is still slightly softer and smaller than a regular baseball, meaning that the game is safe and exciting for the kids involved.
Baseball (Junior, Intermediate and Senior League) ages in this group range from 11-15, before players can move into open seniors baseball. This game is the closest that the game comes to Senior Baseball, there are some modified rules to protect players. Many of these rules are allocated to the pitcher to ensure that they are kept safe and are able to play the game long into the future. These rules include different pitching distances for different ages groups and also players have a limit on how many pitches they are able to throw.
This game is fast paced and exciting for players and spectators, the game is kept to a time limit meaning that there is a dedicated finish time to ensure the players are not needed to play the longevity of a full 9 innings game. Depending on ages groups the games are played between 90-120 mins. This game has a range of levels including beginner to advanced players who are able to try out for representative and development teams, building and crafting their skills.
